Alex “Pop” Ulasiewicz died on May 12, 2017 after enduring a lengthy battle with Alzheimer Disease.  He passed to death under a loving vigil kept by his daughter and grandsons at the Brookdale Carriage Club Providence in Charlotte, NC.

Alex was born September 8, 1930 in Steubenville, OH, the second son to the late John Ulasiewicz and Eva Kusmierz Ulasiewicz Hern.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Matilda “Tillie” Jolly Ulasiewicz (2006), his third child Mark Ulasiewicz (2013) & his elder brother John Ulasiewicz (1987).

He is survived by his only daughter, Gwyn Aldridge of Charlotte, NC, his eldest son Alex “Bo” (Darlene) Ulasiewicz of Richmond, VA, his fourth child Greg Ulasiewicz, Owenton, KY, youngest child Matt (Natalie) Ulasiewicz of Steubenville, OH and Mark’s wife, Marian Brewster Ulasiewicz of Jefferson, LA.

Also surviving are eight grand-children: Katie (Al) Whitney, Kerry Aldridge, Keighley Aldridge, Keith “KC” Aldridge, Samantha (Gerrad) Calegan, Kimberly Ulasiewicz, Mary Clare Ulasiewicz, Nikki Petrisko

One Great-Grand child also survives: Gracie Kathlene “Gracie Kate” Whitney: born May 8, 2017

Alex Ulasiewicz started his distinguished 32 year career with the Steubenville, OH Fire Department on October 1, 1956 and retired as a Captain on June 15, 1988.

Alex was also a veteran of the US Army serving as Sergeant First Class in the Korean War.  He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for “Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against the Enemy – 15 October, 1952 to 24 October, 1952 performing his duties as a Tank Commander in an exemplary manner”.

He was a member of Holy Name Cathedral.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will follow at 1:30 pm at Holy Rosary Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
