Arthur Albert Resch 93 of Steubenville, died Thursday February 16, 2017 at Villa Vista. He was born on South Street in Steubenville, on November 26th, 1923 the only child of Martha and Carl Resch, who were recent German immigrants. Except for a brief period, during the height of the Depression, when he and his mother returned to Germany to live with his grandmother, he spent his youth in Steubenville and graduated from Steubenville High School in 1941. In high school, he was a pitcher for the reestablished baseball program and also played for the American Legion team.
After working briefly as a clerk for Weirton Steel, he jointed the Army Air Corps where he served as a navigator stationed in Norwich Britain during World War II. He flew thirty five missions over Germany and Austria and helped coordinate missions between Britain's RAF and the US Air Corps.
Upon discharge from the Army, he enrolled at The Ohio State University where he graduated in 1947 with a BA in Accounting. Upon graduation, he accepted a position with Libran Montgomry and Ross in Pittsburgh, PA. and at the same time passed the CPA exam and held membership in the AICPA for 70 years. In 1997, he was awarded lifetime membership in the Ohio Society of CPA s. He attended graduate school at NYU where he developed a lifetime fascination with securities analysis. He subsequently took a position as assistant comptroller of Sealtest Pittsburgh before moving back to Steubenville where he accepted an agent's position with the Internal Revenue Service. In 1973 he became Vice President of American Industries and subsequently retired as its Treasurer. Until his late eighties, he worked part time assisting CPA s with income tax preparation.
He was sixty three year member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, as Treasurer of the church and as President of the congregation on several occasions. He was also a former member of Williams Country Club.
He is survived by his widow, Priscilla Porter Resch whom he married in 1947. He is also survived by his daughter Jane (Kevin) Dennis and his son Arthur L. Resch.
Calling hours are Monday 1-3 and 5-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville, where services will be held 10:00am Tuesday, Pastor Michael Heckathorn will officiate and burial will follow at Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Grace Lutheran Church or to the Jefferson County Humane Society because of Mr. Resch's lifetime love of dogs.
