Bernadine "Bernie" Zapolnik

Bernadine "Bernie" Zapolnik, 79, of Steubenville died on Monday September 4, 2017.  Born in Weirton, she was the eldest of two daughters of the late john and Sophie Stefan.  Bernie graduated from Weir High School in 1956 and graduated from the former Ohio Valley School of Nursing in 1959, attended College of Steubenville.  Active in the past Saint Stanislaus Church CWC and presently in Saint Peter’s CWC – helping with functions and bereavement. 

She married Pinky (Frank) in 1962 having three children - Michele (Frank) Hudacheck, Mark (Paula) Zapolnik and Michael (Bridget) Zapolnik.  They were blessed with five grandchildren, Frank Ty Hudacheck, Sarah Hudacheck, Kyle Zapolnik, Katelyn Zapolnik and Zoe Zapolnik.  She leaves behind a sister Nancy (Bob) Turrill and nephew Jonathan Turrill. 

Bernie worked as an office nurse for the late Dr. Albert Sunseri, staff nurse in obstetrics at the former Ohio Valley Hospital and Weirton Medical Center.  Her span of nursing and working as a dedicated nurse was 49 years.  She touched many lives helping new mothers with their babies

She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, the Ohio Nurses Association, West Virginia Nurses Association, and AARP Prime Time Senior Center. 

She enjoyed all the years going to Myrtle Beach with all of her family, attending sports events of Frank Ty and Sarah Hudacheck, visits with Kyle and Katelyn Zapolnik and Zoe Zapolnik of Charlotte, NC. These were all highlights of her life.  Being a hard worker, she put her best effort into everything, especially her cooking and baking.  She cherished the closeness of her family as well as her time with longtime friends, Lucille, Mary Lou, Pat, and Nancy, the “pool pals” at the Weirton Community Center who became special friends with many trips and breakfast “get togethers”. 

Calling hours are Thursday 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. A funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated 10 am Friday at St. Peters, Fr. Timothy Huffman, celebrant. Burial will be private at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  There will be a vigil service 2:00 pm Thursday
