Catherine J. "Kate" Merrill

Catherine J. "Kate" Merrill, 87, of Steubenville died Sunday, February 18, 2018 at her home. She was born March 29, 1930 in Addison, WI. She is the daughter of the late Benedict and Catherine McCarroll Gundrum. Also preceding her in death are her husband Robert Merrill; daughter Joyce Slaughter; infant son Robert; infant grandson Donald Slaughter and three brothers Paul, Jerome and Benedict Gundrum.

Kate was a member of Triumph of the Cross Parish, formerly a member of North American Martyrs Catholic Church and its CWC where she was past president, past president of Annunciation Deanery, Grange Lodge #1757 Pleasant Hill, leader and consultant of Black Diamond Girl Scouts for 32 years.  

Surviving are one son Thomas (Companion Kay) Merrill of Archbold, OH; three daughters Karen (Robert) Cooper of Steubenville, Diane Merrill of Wintersville and Sally Merrill Speaker of Steubenville; two brothers Robert Gundrum of Carrollton and Albert Gundrum of Follansbee; three sisters Rose D'Angelo of Steubenville, Alice Granatir of Bloomingdale and Mary Ann Blain of Roseville, CA; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated Thursday at 11:30 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. A vigil service will be held Wednesday at 7 pm. Entombment will follow in Fort Steuben Burial Estates.
