Gregory P. Bahen, 87, of Steubenville died Monday, May 29, 2017 at his home. He was born June 29, 1929 in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Cornelius and Helen Heaton Bahen. Also preceding him in death are one son Kevin Bahen; two brothers Paul, Neil Bahen and one sister Rita Firm. Gregory was retired from Timet after 30 years of service. Gregory attended the former Holy Name Grade School, Catholic Central High School, the former St. Gregory Seminary, Xavier University and the former College of Steubenville. He was a member of Holy Name Cathedral, where he would serve daily Mass. Gregory served as master of ceremonies to the first bishop of the Diocese of Steubenville, the late Bishop John King Mussio. He then served, as the president of the Holy Name Society, was a lector and Eucharistic Minister, also serving as the president of the Parish Council. For more than 40 years Gregory was involved in coaching football and basketball in the diocesan parochial league. In honor of all his time spent Gregory was awarded the The Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice and was an instituded acolyte by Bishop Gilbert I. Sheldon. Surviving are his wife of 66 years Evelyn Price Bahen, whom he married December 29, 1951; five sons Gregg (Andrea) Bahen of Steubenville, Mark Bahen of Toronto, Neil Bahen of Stratton, Timothy (Lori) Bahen of Columbus and Paul Bahen of Columbus; one daughter Colleen Bahen of Steubenville; one brother Thomas Bahen of Deerfield, MI; grandchildren Kenny, Kaylin (David) Ogden, Joseph, Gregory, Edward, Paul, Connor, Shannon, Jean, Theresa and one great grandchild Paisley Odgen. Calling hours will be Thursday from 3-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 am at Holy Rosary Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be Thursday at 6:45 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Steubenville or Triumph of the Cross Parish.
