Joseph A. "Skip" Dasch

Joseph E. "Skip" Dasch, 77, of Austin Lake died Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at his home. He was born in Steubenville on February 6, 1940, the son of the late Helen and Joseph Dasch.

He attended the Steubenville public schools and graduated from Steubenville High School in 1958, where he played baseball and basketball.

He received his B.S. degree from Washington and Jefferson College and his M.E. degree from the University of Pittsburgh.  He also completed work at the University of Virginia and Ohio University.

Skip taught at Steubenville High School and coached volleyball as well as serving as the athletic treasurer and the natatorium director.  He managed high school tournaments in girls basketball, boys basketball, softball and football for the Ohio High School Athletic Association.   He managed the snowball softball tournament for the March of Dimes and helped with the 3 on 3 basketball tournament for the American Cancer Society.  He also managed St. John Arena in Steubenville.  He was a member of the Atwood Yacht Club and the Omicron Delta Epsilon Economic Honor Society.  He served on Merrill’s committee to revise history books.  He was a member of the Polish Athletic Club and served as President and trustee of the Club.

He served for 8 years on the East District Board of Control for the Ohio H.S. Athletic Association.  While serving on the State Board of Control he was on the negotiating committee for salaries and the committee to redistrict the regions of Ohio for sports.  He was the treasurer of the East District Athletic Directors and has served as the President of the Association as well as President of the Ohio H.S. Athletic Directors.  He served on the election committee for the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators. 

He has received the following awards; the District 5 Basketball Coaches Distinguished Service Award; the East District Athletic Administrators N.I.A.A.A. Distinguished Service Award; the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Meritorious Service Award; the East District Kovaleski Professional Development Award, and was inducted into the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Hall of Fame in 1991.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Connie Rhinaman Dasch.

Skip is survived by his sister, Pam Blancato, and her husband, Rich, along with 2 nephews, a niece, and his cats, Patches, Munchy, Chaos, and Simba.

Calling hours will be held Saturday from 10 am until time of services at Noon at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Fr. Tim Huffman will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Jefferson Co. Humane Society.
