Thomas Shay Jr.

Thomas C. Shay Jr., 79, of Wintersville died Friday, November 24, 2017 at Trinity West. He was born July 10, 1938 in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Thomas C. Shay Sr. and Margaret Borham Carver.

Tom was retired from Wheeling Pitt Steel where he worked in the Caster Dept.

Tom was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan, NASCAR fan, loved the outdoors and openly shared this passion with his family and friends. He could often be found in the surrounding hills with his family, friends, and his beloved dogs. 

If Tom wasn’t found in the woods, he was often found fishing with his close friends on local lakes. He especially looked forward to his fishing trips to North Carolina with his close friends. 

Surviving are his wife Judith DiCesare Shay, whom he married August 3, 1957; two daughters Deborah M. Shay of Weirton and Tammy A. (Ronald) Mehalik of Steubenville; one sister Patricia Cress of Mt. Pleasant, NC; four grandchildren Lee Ann (Matt) Piccinin, Tara (Justin) Meyer, Michelle (James) Vrba, Christopher Oliveti and eight great grandchildren. 

Tom enjoyed many Sunday family dinners with the DiCesare Family. 

He was especially excited when family joined him for summer fun at The Jefferson Sportsman Club where he could share his love for the outdoors.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 am at the funeral home, Msgr. Kurt Kemo will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
