Virginia Buffone

Virginia Buffone, 99, of Steubenville passed away Wednesday morning May 31st, 2017 at Trinity West.  

She is the daughter of the late Stella Gialouris and Steve Bournos.

In addition to her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her husband of 76 years Leo J. Buffone.  Also, her grandson Leo Brooks Buffone, her sisters, Erma Queses, Dorothy Kirlingitis and brother Steve Bournos.

She was born July 27, 1917, in Steubenville and is survived by one sister Anna Loizes of McKeesport PA; four children:  Anna Marie (Doug) Sadler of Weirton, Steve (Cathy) Buffone of Las Vegas, Leo T (Llelia) Buffone and Louise (Ed) Lloyd both of Steubenville; 14 grandchildren including Blaine, Mark, Doug and Greg Sadler, and Shelly (Sadler) Greenlief; Steven and Brian Buffone, Kim (Buffone) Darin and Stephanie (Buffone) Garni, Luke Buffone, Keith Leasure, Eric Lloyd and Kate (Lloyd) Eskridge; 26 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Virginia was a homemaker.  She was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the Philoptchos Society.  She enjoyed her family, playing cards and her church activities, especially during the Greek Festival where she was known as the “coffee lady”.

She was nominated for the Caregiver Award, Community of Stars in 2008 and awarded the St. Photios Award in 2015 by His Eminence Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh. 

Virginia was a loving and caring Mother and Grandmother.  She was a gentle and kind lady who was loved by all who knew her.  She will be sadly missed by everyone.

Calling hours are Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, and on Monday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 330 S. Fourth St. from 11:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 pm. Fr. Nicholas Halkias will officiate. Burial will take place a Union Cemetery. Trisagion service will be Sunday at 4:00 pm.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
