Gertrude Carmela Sciarroni, born July 15, 1939 in Rogliano, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, passed away peacefully at 84 years old on Wednesday April 3, 2024. Gertrude was the daughter of the late Frank and Elvira Sottile and is also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Angelo.
Gertrude is survived by her children, Deneen (Todd and son Avery) and Michael (Therese). She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Adele, Anthony, Frank, and Gemma Sciarroni, sister-in-law, Anna Mary “Dolly” (Dave) Owens, nieces and nephews, dear family friends The Harlan Family, Ruth (Sam) Freshour and cousin Mary Ann Cook.
Gertrude was kind, unselfish, and very giving, especially at her dinner tables. The feisty Italian came out if you did not eat enough. You were blessed if you shared a meal at the Sciarroni house. Gert took every opportunity to attend her grandchildren’s sporting events, graduations, recitals, plays, and grandparents days at their schools. Gertrude was a member of Triumph of The Cross Catholic Church. Gert came over from Italy at age 12 and attended Big Red High School. She worked at The Hub and later volunteered at St. John Medical Center.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 am until 12 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral Liturgy with Mass will follow at 12:30 pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Matt Gossett will celebrate. Entombment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
