Alex J. Kamarados

June 9, 1934 ~ September 18, 2019 (age 85)


Alex John Kamarados, 85, of Steubenville, died Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Wyngate Assisted Living in Weirton.  Alex was born in Chios, Greece, on June 9, 1934, to the late Zanni and Irene Zofou Kamarados.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Stella Flatsousis, Stanley Kamarados, and Michael Kamarados.  
Alex is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie Frangakis Kamarados.  He is also survived by his children, Irene (Pat) Harrington of Carmel, IN, John A. (Connie) Kamarados of Weirton, Eurydice “Rikki” Kamarados, of Steubenville, and Nikolas A. (Stephanie) Kamarados of Follansbee, and five grandchildren, Nathan, Alexander Z., Nikolas Z., Maria, and George.  Alex is also survived by several loving godchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Alex is a graduate of Weir High School, class of 1953, and served two years in the U.S. Navy.  
While in high school, he began his love for baking at Holiday’s Cove Bakery in Weirton, and soon opened his own shop with a partner in Steubenville, Downtown Bakery, in 1958, where he continued to work until 2016, when he retired.
Alex was a member of Holy Trinity, Steubenville, and All Saints, Weirton, Greek Orthodox Churches.  Alex was a Lifetime Member of the AHEPA of Holy Trinity Church, a Member of Masonic Lodge 45 of Steubenville, past Parish Council Treasurer of Holy Trinity, and an avid Member/past Treasurer of the Chian Society Homer Chapter #4 of Steubenville/Weirton.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 22, from 1-5 PM at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville.  There will be a Trisagion service at 3 PM, followed by an AHEPA service and a Masonic service at 4:45 PM.
On Monday, September 23, there will be an additional viewing 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 300 S. Fourth Street, Steubenville.  Father Matthew Moore presiding.  Intermet will be held at Union Cemetery with a military service.
