Anna Popovich Zolgus, 96, of Steubenville, Ohio passed away peacefully Friday, July 26, 2019 at Trinity Hospital, Steubenville. Anna was born in Steubenville on September 18, 1922, in Steubenville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Nick and Yeka Monsilovich Popovich. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Mable Krnich, Ann Mavromatis, brother Bronco Popovich, husband Anthony Zolgus, niece Georgianne Mavromatis Arnette, and nephew, John G. Mavromatis.
Anna graduated from Steubenville High School, class of 1940. She began her career with the Steubenville Teamsters Local and retired as administrator. Anna was a member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church of Steubenville. She was a teacher for over twenty-five (25) years at the Serbian Sunday School and influenced many children by her compassion, dedication and her firm but fare discipline. She was also a member of the St. Petka Lady Auxiliary. She had a giving heart, always taking care of neighbors and friends.
Anna is survived by her three Nephews/Godsons, James (Babette) Mavromatis of Steubenville, Michael (Jay Lynn) Mavromatis of Southaven, MS, Nicholas (Lynn) Mavromatis of Enfield, CT, and many nieces and nephews. Family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Church, Cemetery Fund or Petka Choir. The family greatly appreciates the compassion and care provided by Lancia Villa Vista Staff and the Trinity West Hospital ER and ICU staff for their compassion and care. The family greatly appreciates loving care provided by Ms. Beryl Lancaster, Ms. Kim Paluch and beloved friend Ms.Linda Carter.
Friends will be received on Friday, August 2, 2019 from 11:00am – 2:00pm at Mosti Funeral Home, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, Ohio. Service will be held at Mosti Funeral Home Sunset Chapel on Friday at 2:00pm with Rev. Stefan Djoric with burial at the Serbian Orthodox Cemetery.
