John B. Gentile, 75, of Barefoot Bay, FL, formerly of Steubenville, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 6, 2019, in Florida. He was born April 26, 1944, in Steubenville. He is the son of the late John Gentile and Minnie Tarquinio Gentile Patchen. Also preceding him in death is his sister, Judith Porter.
John was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel where he worked for over 40 years in the 80 inch slab yard. He was a former member of Triumph of the Cross Parish and current member of St. Luke’s Parish in Florida. John was an active member of the P.A.C. and the Moose Lodge 1767 in FL. He was an avid NHRA fan. John was devoted to his family and was married to his wife, Liz for 52 years.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Dobrin Gentile; two sons, John C. (Michele) Gentile of Steubenville and James “Jimmie” (Sandy) Gentile of Columbus; brother, Robert (Kathy) Gentile of Rhode Island; two grandchildren, Casey (Fiance Gabe) Gentile and Suzan Eck.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be Tuesday at 10 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Entombment will follow in Mt. Cavalry Cemetery. A vigil service will be Monday at 6:45 pm.
