Judith L. Shay, 80, of Wintersville died Friday, December 28, 2018 at Sienna Woods Rehabilitation Center with her daughters by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 9, 1938 in Steubenville. She is the daughter of the late Alphonso and Gilda Coppa DiCesare. Judy is also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas C. Shay, Jr., her sister, Connie Bjelac, and brother, John DiCesare.
Judy retired from Big Bear after 29 years in the bakery department. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and Choir. She enjoyed her Thursday morning bowling league, card club and Gadabouts trips. Judy’s love for her family was immeasurable and she treasured every moment she spent with them. Her vivacious laugh and smile will be missed by all.
Judy is survived by her two daughters, Deborah M. Shay of Weirton and her partner, Anthoni Fabian, Tammy A. (Ronald) Mehalik of Steubenville; her “favorite son”, Richard Tluchowski of Belvedere; three brothers, Benny DiCesare of Wintersville, Joseph (Alexis) of Steubenville, Stephen (Twila) DiCesare, one sister, Paula Licata of Steubenville; four grandchildren, Lee Ann (Matt) Piccinin, Tara (Justin) Meyer, Michelle (James) Vrba, Christopher Oliveti and eight great grandchildren; Sister-in-law Patricia Cress of NC; She also leaves behind her canine, Katie.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Fr. Michael Gossett will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Thursday at 6:30 pm.
