Roger W. Bertoia, 85, of Cincinnati, OH formerly of Steubenville died Monday, October 14, 2019 at The Lodge Retirement Community. He was born August 25, 1934 in Joliet, IL. He is the son of the late Alfonso Bertoia and Maria Perosa Bertoia Airola. Preceding him in death was his stepfather, Peter Airola, and brother, Norman Bertoia. Roger was the president and owner of Ohio Nut and Washer for 24 years before selling the manufacturing plant in 1984. He owned and operated the Bishop of Books for twenty plus years before closing in 2005. He was president on the Diocese of Steubenville School Board, served on Franciscan University Board for 6 years, Jefferson County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Board for 12 years, President of Steubenville Country Club for 4 years, Board Member of Steubenville Country Club for 10 terms, Member of the University Club in Pittsburgh, Board of Directors for the Catholic Community Center, Steubenville Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson County Department of Jobs and Family Services, and Rotary International. He was the Golf Coach at Steubenville Catholic Central High School from 1987-1993 and was an assistant football coach in the 1960’s for the Crusaders. He taught History and coached football at Elder High School in addition to serving as track coach at Purcell High School, both in Cincinnati in the late 1950’s. He played professional football in the Canadian Football League for the Ottawa Rough Riders in the late 50’s and was inducted into Xavier University’s HOF for Football in 2007 where he graduated and played four seasons as quarterback. Surviving are his wife Lauretta Benjamin Bertoia, whom he married June 6, 1959; four sons Roger of Cincinnati, Charles (Joe Alacapa) of Chicago, David (Annette) of Steubenville and Doug (Jeanne) of Cincinnati; one sister Rosemarie (Ronald) Spesia of Fort Myers, FL; five grandchildren Nicholas, David, Brittany, Zachary and Kelli. Calling hours will be Friday from 10:30 am until 1:30 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will follow at 2 pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
