William Campbell. Leist, 93 of Steubenville, who had been a resident of the Inn At Northwood Village, Dover, Ohio for the past two years, died Monday, July 24, 2017 after a brief illness.  He was born April 17, 1924 in Steubenville, Ohio. He was the son of the late William H. Leist and Helen Campbell Leist. William, in addition to his parents was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Green Leist and sons, Robert Campbell Leist and an infant William Leist.

Bill enjoyed all facets of his life.  He loved good food and talking with all his family, neighbors and friends.  He will be missed by his family and his grandchildren.  He was a professional painting and decorator who owned and operated William Leist & Son Painting and Decorating.  He served residential and commercial clients all over the UpperOhio Valley.  He was and artist and musician.  Bill loved his ham radio station, building and tinkering with electronics, and enjoyed all his contacts worldwide. He served in the Army in WWII where he was a Sergeant First Class with the 652nd Tank Destroyer Battalion of Fort Polk, LA that trained under General George S. Patton.  He was active in the Steubenville Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where he was a troop leaderfor Troup #1.  He was a past president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation. He was an active member of the Steubenville Rotary Club, a former member of the Elks, active in Holy Family Catholic Church, The Steubenville – Weirton Amateur Radio Club, U.S. Army MARS, and involved with the reunion committees for the Big Red Class of 1942.    

Surviving are his son Timothy William (Catherine Welsch) Leist of New Philadelphia andhis children, Paul William (Mary Ross) Leist of Columbus, and Timothy Patrick Leist of Columbus, his daughter in law, Paula Jean (Welsch) Leist of Steubenville and her son, Robert Michael (Susanna Flint) Leist of Kaiserslautern, Germany.  He is also survived byhis sister Barbara Jane Leist.  

Calling hours are Thursday, July 27, 2017, 6-8pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville, Ohio. A funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Msgr. Gerald Calovini, celebrant. Entombment will be at Sorrowful Mysteries Mausoleum, Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service 6:45 pm Thursday.
