Albert G. (Bert) Kearney 102 ,originally from Steubenville, passed away on January 15, 2021 at the Vineyards of Concord, Frankfort, OH.
He is the son of the late Charles A. and Emma D. (Smith) Kearney. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane (Martin) Kearney, of 49 years and a daughter, Elizabeth Feeney, six brothers Fran, Dick, Joe, Thomas, James and Dan Kearney and two sisters, Ernestine Sams and Mary Spence.
He is survived by two sons, Albert (Sondra) Kearney of Okemos, Michigan and Dave (Charlotte) Kearney, of Washington C.H., Ohio. and son-in-law, Dan Feeney of Westerville, Ohio, seven grandchildren, Jeanette Maxwell, Megan Kearney, Michelle (Ryan) Gregg, Shawn and Christopher Kearney, Sean Feeney and Erin (Jared) Feeney-Savre and nine great grandchildren, Emma Maxwell, Christopher and Addie Gregg, Kendyl Kearney and Eva, Nolan and Milo Savre, Breanna and Brooke Feeney and 3 special nieces Denise, Lisa and Samantha along with several other nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Holy Name and Triumph of the Cross Catholic Churches. He retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel on June 27, 1981 after 44 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 33 for several years. He also served in WWII of the 99 infantry Division in field artillery at the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, Ramagan, and Ruhr Pocket. He pitched for the local fast pitch softball team and bowled for Holy Name for several years. He loved going to Wheeling Downs Dog Track with his sons.
Friends are invited to a funeral liturgy with Mass on Thursday at 11 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
