Anthony E. Mattioli Sr., 91, a beacon of wisdom and spirited joy, departed this life on Thursday, May 16, 2024, in the comfort of his own home. Born on October 27, 1932, in Steubenville, Anthony lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family.
Anthony proudly served his country as an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, a testament to his unwavering sense of duty. Upon his return, he embarked on a long career at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, where he devoted 43 years of his life, most notably at the 80-inch mill. A devout member of the former St. Anthony’s parish and currently Holy Family Catholic Church, Anthony also dedicated his time and efforts to the Knights of Columbus Council 472, where his contributions were both meaningful and lasting.
Anthony's legacy is carried on by his son, Anthony (Kathy) Mattioli Jr., of Austin Lake; his daughters, Darla (Doug) Beach of Girard, OH, and Gina (Mike) Sloe of Highland Heights, OH. He was a cherished grandfather to seven grandchildren: Mark, Katie, Kristie, Austin, Megan, Aaron, Isaac and 11 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his father Luigi, mother Maria Tatone Mattioli, wife Shirlie Garrett Mattioli, sister Yolanda Hill, and infant daughter Diana, Anthony now joins them in eternal peace.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 am to 12 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will follow at 12:30 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, Fr. Drake McCalister will celebrate. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
