Barry David Bender

Barry David Bender, 71, passed away suddenly this past Saturday, August 19, 2023, accompanied by his wife, daughter, and close friends, after receiving heroic medical care and the Last Rites of the Catholic Faith.

Born August 15, 1952, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Barry was the second child of the late Robert and Betty Bender. He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Steubenville, a member of Regnum Christi and the Knights of Columbus after having worked as a civil engineer for more than 45 years, the highlight of his career being an engineer on the construction of the New River Gorge Bridge, WV.

Barry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathryn and his four children: Fr. John of Cheshire, CT, Michael of Great Falls, VA, Fr. Matthew of Rome, Italy, and Mary Kathryn of Toronto as well as his two sisters Barbara Reisch of Shillington, PA and Beverly Bender of Mohnton, PA.

A thoughtful, hardworking father and husband, Barry’s love for his Faith and family flowed over into every aspect of life. With steady generosity, he quietly served others and enjoyed spending time outside, especially gardening.

Visitation for Barry will be held Friday August 25, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held Saturday at 10 am and will be officiated by his two sons at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 425 N. 4th St, Steubenville. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
