Daniel Zapolnik, affectionately known as Dan, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 4, 2024, at Trinity West ER. Born on October 25, 1928, in Grand Rapids, MI, Dan was a man whose humor, wisdom, and spirited nature touched everyone he met.
Dan proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps before embarking on a career as a Lineman with Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, where he retired after many years of dedicated service. His work ethic and camaraderie with his colleagues were a testament to his character.
Dan was deeply involved in his community. He was an active member of the Polish Athletic Club, American Legion Post 33, and a coach for St. Peter’s Football and Baseball teams. As a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Dan’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and relationships.
His family was the light of his life. Predeceased by his parents, John and Stella Lopatowicz Zapolnik, wife, Joan Bartemes Zapolnik, Daughter, Denise Zapolnik, and his four brothers, John, Edward, Alphonse, and Frank "Pinky" Zapolnik, Dan’s legacy lives on through his loving son, Daniel (Terri) Zapolnik; daughter, Dana (Mike) Murphy; cherished grandchildren, Meagan, Taylor, Allie, Joseph, and Mitchell; and adored great-grandchildren, Lailah, Averie, and Olivia.
Dan’s memory will forever be held in the hearts of those who knew him. His laughter, guidance, and zest for life will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held Friday from 3-6 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be held Saturday at 9:30 am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Fr. Tim Huffman will celebrate. Entombment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service at 3PM Friday.
