Donna Contes Obituary

Donna Lee Contes, 89, of Redington Shores, Florida, went to be with our Lord and Savior on October 2, 2024, just days before her 90th birthday. Donna was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on October 13, 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stewart Sisley and Josephine Booth, and her brothers, Stewart Sisley Jr., and Wayne Sisley.

Donna lived in her hometown of Steubenville for almost 60 years before moving to Virginia Beach and then retiring in Florida. She had a long and wonderful career with Macy’s, beginning with her service at Kaufmann’s in Fort Steuben Mall. She excelled in her profession, receiving annual awards and commendations for outstanding sales and service.

Donna was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville and later St. Stefanos in St. Petersburg, Florida. Her love for her faith was reflected in her service to the ministries of the Church. Over the years, Donna held various offices in Philoptochos, Daughters of Penelope, Greek Language School, Greek Orthodox Youth of America, and AGAPE Club. She also served her hometown community by holding offices with the Women’s Club of The University of Steubenville.

Donna lit up every room she walked into with her bright blue eyes, captivating smile, and infectious laugh. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds. She was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of wisdom to anyone in need. To know Donna was to love her. She knew no stranger and saw only the best in everyone.

Donna cherished her adoring family: daughter Anna Maria (John) Stepanovich of Virginia Beach, Virginia; son Bill (Dawn) Contes of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; and her precious grandchildren, George (Katie) Stepanovich, Deanna (Jesse) Meador, Christina (Stamatis) Tripodis, all of Virginia Beach; Evan Contes of Chicago; John Contes of Dallas; and Nicholas Contes of Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Donna treasured her great-grandchildren: Mary, John, and Georgie Stepanovich, and Yianni and Anna Tripodis.

The matriarch of her family, Donna was the rock her family relied on, teaching them the values exemplified by her life: dedication to the Orthodox faith and Church, unconditional love for family, loyalty in friendship, diligent commitment to hard work, and pride in her beloved country. Donna lived her life and its challenges as though her “glass was always half-full” because she knew that “God always took care” of her.
