Ellen Smogor passed away on April 16, 2026 at Trinity West surrounded by her children following a sudden illness. She was born October 27, 1957 in Steubenville, Ohio to Bob and Arlene (Mack) Smogor. Ellen was a 1976 Graduate of Steubenville Big Red where she played tennis. In 1980 Ellen married Joseph Brancazio and started a family having three children. Ellen and Joseph later divorced, but remained good friends. She retired from Stars and Stripes in 2020 and enjoyed playing Minecraft, watching movies and tennis, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets.
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Arlene; sister, MaryAnn Donnelly; nephew, Robert Barnes; and ex-husband, Joseph Brancazio.Ellen is survived by her children Margaret (Brandon Arnold) Brancazio of Steubenville, Samual Brancazio of Steubenville, and Joshua (Sheronda Lackey) Brancazio of Wintersville. She is also survived by aunt Clara Turner of Amsterdam, sister Susan (William) Boehke of Wintersville, brother John (Mary) Smogor of Orlando, FL, brother Cas (Brandi) Smogor of Steubenville, sister Fran Smogor of Steubenville as well as numerous nieces, nephews, one great niece, and four great nephews. Ellen also leaves behind four cats; Newton, Titten, Mama Beanz, and Velveeta who will all miss their grandmother's lap and stealing her dinner.
Although she only had 3 biological children, Ellen was always welcoming to the friends her children brought home and was called "Mom" or "Ellen" with love and affection by many. Additionally, she had many children she considered her "grandchildren" and relished being their honorary "Grandma E". Ellen had many friends and while she was not able to see them as often as she would have liked, she loved seeing their lives on Facebook and being able to connect with them online.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at New Summerset Christian Church, 12052 St Rt 213 (131 County Rd 53) Irondale, Ohio at 11am with Minister Rob Minto presiding.
