Gary Alan Meal, 70, of Bloomingdale, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 24, 2021. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA.
Gary was raised in Oakdale, PA. He received his BS at Fairmont University in Fairmont, WV with a degree in Industrial Arts. Upon graduating in 1978 he moved to the Ohio Valley and began his 30 year teaching career at Jefferson Union High School which later became Edison High School. Gary was well known as "Mr. Meal" to the scores of students whose lives he touched. Nothing gave Gary more pleasure than to run into his former students who expressed that he had instilled a life-long love of woodworking.
In 2002, Gary retired from teaching and traded his woodworking tools for kitchen tools. He was the proprietor, along with his wife Janet, of JC Wine Cellars for the past 23 years. Gary worked tirelessly in every aspect of the business until his second retirement in 2020.
Gary was a very talented man and enjoyed many hobbies including photography and music. He played accordion in a wedding band with his father throughout high school & college in Western PA.
Gary was the son of the late Walter and Nellie (Bavol) Meal of Carnegie, PA.
Surviving are his wife Janet Clause Meal, two daughters and a sister.
A celebration of a life well lived will be held at JC Wine Cellars in April.
