Obituary

Genevieve “Jean” E. Miklasz , of Carmel, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2023, just two months after her 100th birthday on December 1, 1922. Jean grew up and spent most of her life in Steubenville, Ohio where she graduated from St. Stanislaus grade school and Steubenville “Big Red” High School.  During her high school years, she worked as a Nurse’s Aide. In 1943, Jean answered the call during World War II and became a “Rosie the Riveter” where she worked at the Akron, Ohio Aircraft Plant making wings for the B-42 Corsair. On February 16, 1946, Jean married her returning Marine Corp fiancé, Walter “Mickey” Miklasz.  Together, they raised three children:  Ted, Teresa, and Michael.

In addition to being a homemaker, Jean volunteered for various social and religious events at St. Stanislaus Church and School.  She was always among the crew for the annual production of 2000 Lbs. of Kielbasa.  She also worked at Jo Ann’s Bakery and later was a bartender at the Steubenville “Polish National Alliance Club” (PNA) where she was affectionately nicknamed “Mean Jean”. Jean enjoyed cooking, especially for special occasions when she made cabbage rolls (Golombki), and her famous “nut rolls”.  She loved to read and spent years crocheting Afghans for everyone in the family.

Jean was deeply religious, enjoying the Mass, praying the rosary, and famously known for having everyone on her prayer list. She was a regular participant at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Adoration Chapel, and Rosary Devotion at Church.  Her religious and social activities led to many cherished friendships. Jean and Mickey moved to Carmel, Indiana in the winter of 2006 where she was preceded in death by her husband, “Mickey,” in 2007 and son, Michael in 2016.

Survivors include her two other children and spouses; Ted (Holly) Miklasz, Teresa (Tom) Noice and Nancy Brown Miklasz; grandchildren, Jeffrey  Noice, Jason Noice, Tonya (Drew) Rockwell, Brent Miklasz, Ashley (Michael) Mazzocco, Jennifer (Larry) Behnken and Stanley (Jennifer) Miklasz; great grandchildren, Ashley, Xhaiden, Charlie, Lola, Theodore and Henry; also a special and very close nephew, Butch (Fran) Antol.

Friends are invited to a committal service that will be held Friday, June 9, at 10:30 AM at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chapel in Steubenville.
