Geraldine "Gerry" L. Balkun

Geraldine “Gerry” L. Balkun, 93, of Toronto died Friday, January 3, 2025 at Liza’s Place in Wheeling. She was born October 19, 1931 in Pittsburgh. She is the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Constance Cokinos Deiderich. She is also preceded in death by her husband Steve Balkun.

Gerry was known as the “shoe lady”. She worked and managed several local shoe stores including Michael’s, Carlisle’s and JC Penney’s..  

Surviving are son Steve (Bonnie) Balkun of Toronto; daughter Debbie (Donald) White of Wheeling; brothers Arthur (Joann) Deiderich of Cleveland, Frederick Deiderich of Toronto and Andrew (Charlotte) Deiderich of Pine Hurst, NC; sister Connie (Bob) Van Dyke of Toronto; three grandchildren Stefanie (Timmy) Fisher, Aaron (Kristen) White and Donnie (Mandy) White; six great grandchildren Colt, Camden, Kyle, Abby, Erin and Hayden.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 am until time of services at 12 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery.
