Gilbert J. Collins, Jr.

Gilbert J. Collins, Jr, 83, of Steubenville passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020 at his home. He was born April 20, 1937 in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Gilbert and Anna Collins. He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Federline, daughter Karen Bishop and grandson Richard Cesta.

Gil did not know a stranger, and he was passionate about fishing and football. He never missed a Notre Dame or Pittsburgh Steelers game. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, where he worked for 45 years. He was a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central, and he proudly served his country in U.S. Army. He was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 33.

The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Hospice for the care and compassion they provided.

Gil leaves behind his wife Donna (Humes) Collins; two sons Johnny (Julie) Collins of VA, Donny (Emily) DiMarzio of Steubenville; three daughters Patricia Harris of Wintersville, Denise DiMarzio of Steubenville, and Dawn (David) Carpenter of Urbana; two sisters Clara Turnbaugh and Anna Bottegal, both of Steubenville; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and long-time friends.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 9-11am at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be following at 11:30 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery
