Gilbert L. Humpe

Gilbert L. Humpe, 81, of Steubenville died Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Valley Hospice. He was born August 11, 1943 in Steubenville. He is the son of the late John and Mary Margaret Fenske Humpe. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Theresa Humpe; brothers John and Lawrence Humpe.

Gilbert was retired from Weirton Steel where he was a traffic manager for many years. He was also the owner & President of Absolute Transportation. Gilbert enjoyed being a private pilot and flying his plane, attending and belonging to different antique car clubs including the Cantankerous T’s. He was Catholic by faith and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  

Surviving are daughter Deborah (William) Hiles of Wintersville; four sisters Mary (Dr. Robert) Kriessler of Chagrin Falls, OH, Elizabeth (Tom) Miller of West Liberty, OH, Patricia (John) Immell of Chillicothe, OH and Karen Humpe of Godfrey, IL; he leaves behind two grandchildren Brandon and Jordan. Also his long time companion Ruby.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:30 pm until time of services at 4:30 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Fr. Michael Gossett will officiate and burial will be held in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
