Irene Sabados

In loving memory of our mother, Irene Ann Grajewski Sabados, who passed away October 24, 2023, in Arlington Heights, IL. Irene was born July 31, 1926 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late Victor and Emily Matyszczyk Grajewski. She is a 1943 graduate of Steubenville High School and later in life earned her LPN license from Eastern Gateway Community College (formerly Jefferson County Technical Institute). She practiced nursing for many years at Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville.

Irene was the devoted wife of the late Andrew J. Sabados Sr. who preceded her in death in 2011. Andrew and Irene married in June 1947 and went on to have five children. She is the loving mother of Barbara (David) Johnson of Arlington Heights, IL, Suzanne Petrie of Arlington Heights, IL, Andrew (Carol) Sabados of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Michael (Toni) Sabados of Houston, TX, and Patty (Glenn) Piechowski of Palatine, IL, and will be deeply missed by all.

Irene was a kind, caring, gracious and generous woman who always put the needs of her family and others before herself. She faced every challenge in life with courage and dignity. Irene was a source of inspiration to all who knew her and will be deeply missed by the many whose lives she touched. She was a woman of strong faith and instilled the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right in her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was a true role model.

Irene is survived by eleven grandchildren; Katie, Genesa, Matthew, Cara, Lesli, Andrew, Patrick, Kristy, Allyson, Joseph, and Kristina. She is also the proud great grandmother of Bennett, Thomas, Charleston, Roman, Paul, Sam, Kaylee, Kendall, Charlie, Cameron, Charlotte, and Luke. 

Irene was preceded in death by her ten siblings; Ida, Sister Augustine, Walter, Joseph, Mary, James, Victor, Elizabeth, Frances, and Genevieve.

She loved to play cards, and games, and shared these family traditions with her many friends at her former residence, Church Creek of Arlington Heights. They will miss her dearly. 

Family and friends may call at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville, on Sunday, October 29, from 2pm to 4pm. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Peters Catholic Church on Monday at 10 am. Entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville will follow mass. 

Mom, you will always be in our hearts and we will never forget you. We love you so very much. Rest in peace.
