James J. “Jim” “Gloves” Looman Jr., 76, of Steubenville passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023 at Trinity Hospital.
Jim was born Nov. 4, 1946, in Steubenville, a son of the late James J. and Edna Mae Ferguson Looman Sr. He also was proceeded in death by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jim was a 1964 graduate of Steubenville High School. He attended Ohio University and finished his higher education at West Liberty State University. He was a retired accountant, having work for many businesses in the Ohio Valley over the years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Carol D. Indovina Looman; a son Patrick (Candell) Looman of Olive Branch, Miss.; daughter Meghan (Harry) Orban of Steubenville; and grandchildren Caitlyn, Ryley, Aisley and Breslyn Looman; Sophia, Lilly and Isabella Orban.
Also surviving are his brother Ed (Carol) Looman of Steubenville, numerous nieces and nephews as well as brothers and sisters in law, aunts and cousins.
Jim was a major supporter of Big Red football and stayed active with the Big Red Boosters Club. He was a regular fixture on game night outside Harding Stadium, selling 50-50 tickets. He was honored in 2011 for his service to the club and the football program. He also was an avid fan of The Ohio State University and the Cleveland Browns. He was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Like his father before him, Jim spent many years as a youth baseball and softball coach in Steubenville. He volunteered his time for more than 30 years. The Steubenville Herald-Star saluted him for his service by selecting him to be a Community Star.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 pm until time of services at 4 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Fr. Drake McCalister will be officiating and burial will be held a later date in Union Cemetery.
