James K. Miller (1950-2023), 72, of Steubenville died on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at The Ohio State University East Hospital. He was born on December 19, 1950 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late James K. Miller and Marie E. (Konopka) Miller. He is preceded in death by his beloved sister Mrs. MaryAnn (Daniel) Loyer.
Jim was a 1969 graduate of Catholic Central High School where he was an accomplished athlete, serving as both quarterback and defensive back of the football team. He assisted with the coaching of the junior high school football team and was a loyal fan of the Crusaders high school football team, attending every home game for many years beyond graduation. For over 30 years Jim was a pipefitter at Weirton Steel. Upon retirement he earned his CDL and worked for the Lincare Company delivering oxygen and medical supplies for home care. Jim was an avid golfer and a life-long fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ohio State football. He loved animals and enjoyed collecting coins.
Most of all, Jim demonstrated loyalty and love for his family. He made many eight-hour round trip drives to Cincinnati, all in one day, to visit his family for holidays and birthdays. He usually included an unannounced stop in Columbus along the way, always with gifts for the kids. He was known to bring fireworks to family functions no matter where they were held or whether permitted or not. Entertaining the kids was all that mattered.
He is survived by two loving children, Kris (Kari) Miller of Columbus, Jamie (Matt) Miller-Novak of Cincinnati; three adored grandchildren, Santino Miller, Rosalie Miller, and Liam Miller-Novak; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
