Jean Rankin Obituary

Jean A. Rankin, 95, of Steubenville passed away peacefully at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville Wednesday, March 17, 2021. She was born in Steubenville on March 7, 1926 and recently celebrated her 95th birthday. Jean is preceded in death by her husband John “Pete” Rankin; her son William James Rankin; her parents; four brothers and three sisters.

Jean graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School, and went on the graduate from the School of Nursing at Mt. Carmel in Columbus. She spent her many years in the nursing profession starting at the Gill Hospital, St. John’s Hospital, The City of Steubenville Health Department, and ending up at Capital Home Health Care Nursing Office. She was a devout Catholic with a very strong faith in our Lord. She was a member of Triumph of the Cross Parish.

She is survived by her children Kathy (Tim) Sweeney of North Canton, OH, John Rankin, Jr of Colliers, WV, Mike (Elaine) Rankin of Columbus, OH, Mary Alice (Charlie) Stewart of Steubenville, Patti Bratcher of North Canton, OH, Beth Simpson of Beaver Falls, PA; daughter in law Carmen Rankin of Columbus, OH; two sisters Annette Entinger of Michigan and Sr. Alena Bernert of Cincinnati, OH. Jean has 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews.

Jean was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We will cherish our many, many fond memories of our family get togethers, taco parties and holidays when we were all together. She really enjoyed those times, seeing her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all together. Jean also had lifelong friends and cherished those relationships.

Our Mom had a tremendous faith in our Lord. She was such a strong, inspiring woman who was greatly admired and respected by all her family and friends, and everyone who knew her. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. We know in our hearts she is resting in peace among the angels.

Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the staff at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville's Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Facilities. With a special thank you to Dr. Tranto and the third floor staff for the loving care they provided for our mother. In addition we extend our heartfelt thanks to Southern Care Hospice.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 9 until 10:30 am at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will follow at 11 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Triumph of the Cross Parish,  200 Rosemont Ave, Steubenville, OH 43952 or Southern Care Hospice, 100 Welday St. Ste G, Wintersville, OH 43953.
