Jerrold L. Dezen

Jerrold “Moon” Lee Dezen, 73, of Wintersville, passed away peacefully from his battle with cancer on Saturday, October 5, 2024 surrounded by his family.  He was born May 7, 1951 in Steubenville to the late Harold Dezen and Irene Grago McElroy.

Jerry was a retired Steel Mill worker and lifelong musician. He was an extraordinary drummer who began his journey in music at just three years old. Nothing brought him more joy than sharing his love for music, and spending time with his family and friends.  His legacy is a beautiful collection of heartfelt melodies and cherished memories that will always resonate in our hearts. Jerry had many collections which were a representation of his creativity and curiosity reflecting his many passions.  He owned a diverse array of record albums that echoed with the rhythms of his favorite musicians, alongside stunning Picasso prints and other art that captured the beauty and darkness of the world through his eyes. His love for music extended beyond his albums to a remarkable collection of musical instruments and band equipment that told stories of countless jam sessions and spontaneous creations. Each of his collections spoke to his vibrant spirit, curiosity, and deep appreciation for the arts and human experience.  

He was a member of the 7th day Adventist Church of Wintersville.  

He is survived by his children, Zoe Ryals (Keith) and Jared Dezen and his grandchildren Nick, Peyton, Sophie, Parker and Preston.  

Jerry was loved by many and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3-6 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:30 pm at the funeral home, Pastor Jason Elliott will officiate. Entombment will follow in Union Cemetery.
