Joanna L. Controguerra

Joanna L. Controguerra, 91, of Steubenville died Friday, August 29, 2025 at Bolger Country Club Manor. She was born July 26, 1934 in Weirton. She is the daughter of the late Louis and Lucille Tassy Spano. Joanna is also preceded in death by her husband Orlando “Scottie”; two brothers Samuel and James Spano; sister Rose Kaminski.

Joanna was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Rita Shoup of Steubenville and Lucille Controguerra of Columbus; three grandchildren Joann Shoup, Elizabeth Sherrin, Mary Shoup and great granddaughter Iris Sherrin.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will follow at 11:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
