John George Obituary

John L. George, 73, went to be with the Lord on  Saturday April 20, 2019, surrounded by his family while at Salem Hospital. John was born on June 15, 1945 in East Liverpool. He is the son of the late Jack Griffith and Martha (George) Kleineke, also preceding  him in death are his maternal grandparents Mazella and James George, and his step father, Henry Kleineke.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis (Wilsac) George whom he married July 17, 1965, one daughter, Tanya (Greg) Ekoniak, and grandchildren Chaz and Laci Ekoniak. Also surviving are his sisters Karen Kleineke McClain, Janet (John) DiNofrio, step sister Jane Griffith Leach, stepmother, Isabelle Griffith.  He graduated from Springfield High School in Bergholz, Ohio in 1963. He lived most of his life in Wintersville, Ohio until moving to Struthers in 2014
John was employed by Signode Steel Corporation and MBS Sales, Weirton, W.Va.
He enjoyed working on his home, in his yard, golfing, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He also restored classic cars and won numerous car show awards. John served his country during the Vietnam war in US Army 1966-1968. He was stationed in Bad Hersfeld, Germany. He was an artillery surveyor and earned a national defense service medal, good conduct medal, expert rifle medal, and soldier of the year.
John was a member of Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, Wintersville, Ohio and Poland Presbyterian Church, Poland, Ohio.  
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mateo, practitioners, nurses, and respiratory therapists of Salem Regional Hospital. We are forever grateful for the compassion shown to John and his family members during his hospitalization. 
Calling hours are Thursday 10 am until the time of services at Noon at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville. Rev.Dr. Bill Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville.
