John “The Ace” LaRue, age 91 (he would have said 92) passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024. He was born in Steubenville on December 9, 1932. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years Kathryn (Paro), his parents Tencil and Kathrine (Mulrooney) and his sister Nancy Cich (John) and his nephew John Cich.
Dearest father to Lynn Coyle (James), John, David (Cindy), James (Emily) and Kristen Carroll (Marc). Loving Pappy to Jennifer Patel (Jonah), James Coyle (Briana), Tessa, Anna, David Coyle (Becky), Alex, Dylan (Emily), Andre, Kaylee, Sarah, Gage, Paul, Olivia Carroll, Nina Carroll, Grace and Luca. Great grandfather to Avery Patel, Lincoln, Emilia Coyle and Charlotte Coyle. Loving uncle to Brian Cich and Karen Mahon (Cich). Friend to many over the years.
John loved nothing more than being with his family especially during the holidays and on vacations to Myrtle Beach where the entire family gathered over many summers. He loved playing baseball in his youth and golf (as long as he was the first group off the tees!). He will be missed by all.
John was the first in his family to graduate from college (College of Steubenville 1958). He started his career as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service. In 1970 he joined Ohio River Collieries from which he retired in 1985. John served in the U.S. Army beginning in 1953 being honorably discharged in 1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany).
Funeral mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Steubenville on Wednesday August 14, 2024 at 10am. Interment service will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
