John C. Smith

John Charles “Smitty” Smith, 85 of Steubenville, was called home Thursday, September 21, 2023. He was born December 8, 1937 in Steubenville to the late John C. and Velva Ruth Weaver Smith.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Catherine “Kitti” Buffone Smith; John is also preceded in death  by his three sisters, Carol Hoover, Clara Hoover, and Marilyn Kenefick.

 John is survived by two children, Christina (Robert) Frazee and John C. Smith. Four grandchildren, John Paul (Ana) Smith, Amber (Matt) Lumpkin, Briana, and Michael Anthony Smith. Six great- grandchildren, Alexis Smith, Nina Lumpkin, Maria, Gia, Allie, and Johnny. Nina was his “best buddy”.

John proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a paratrooper.  He retired from Weirton Steel Corporation in 1996, he was a member of the WSX 25 year club, and was a 32 degree Mason. He was a member of Triumph of the Cross Church.

Services will be held at Mosti Funeral Home,4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville on Tuesday, September 26, from 10 am until time of service at 12 pm. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
