Joseph James Garvey

Joseph James Garvey, 99, of Weirton died Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at his home. He was born September 18, 1921 in Renville, MN. He is the son of the late James and Lumina Dion Garvey. He is also preceded in death by his wife Theresa Gaylord Garvey; three brothers and two sisters.

Joseph Garvey welcomed everyone into his life with a warm smile and a laugh. An avid bike rider and hiker, Joe’s heart was always open to new adventures and new friends along the way. Joseph was retired from Weirton Steel where he worked for many years. He also was an avid reader. Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.  

Surviving are two sons David (Sandra) of Seabrook Island, SC and Thomas of Steubenville; one daughter Kathy (Leon) Camerlengo of Columbus; six grandchildren Jennifer, David and Michael Garvey & Joseph, Gena and Nicholas Camerlengo; five great grandchildren Susanna, Ben, Olivia, Ezra, Audriana and one great great granddaughter Opal.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Fr. Tim Huffman will celebrate. Burial will be private and at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be Friday at 5 pm.

Masks will be required and social distancing will be expected.
