Joseph T. Mickey

Joseph Theodore Mickey, 93, our loving husband, father and Pap, entered into eternal rest on September 2,2023 in Steubenville.Much like the theme song from Cheers, everybody knew his name. Whenever we were out and about, we always heard” Hey Mr. Mickey”. Joe was born on July 14,1930 in Steubenville to Mildred and Joseph Mickey. He was a graduate of Steubenville High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and his masters degree from West Virginia University.

He served in the U. S. Army . Joe is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church/Blessed Sacrament Church.

His life was spent in devotion to his family,including Betty, his loving wife of 67 years,three children, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Joe will be remembered for his warm smile and kind spirit. Joe was a teacher and coach in the Steubenville School District for 27 years and later co-owner of the Target Shop in Steubenville until retirement in 1995. Joe is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gifford Crosby.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; daughters, Cheryl (Duke) Rakich, Debra (Eric) Farchione,and son, Joseph (Lynette Pearce) Mickey; grandchildren, Natalie (Aaron) Bracone, Lauren (Justin) Neeper, Joseph Mickey (Jamie), Anthony Mickey, Jake Rakich, Shane Rakich (fiancé Kaila Latina) great-grandchildren,Vito Bracone, Gianni Bracone, Nico Neeper, Carlo Neeper, Carter Mickey , Mirabella Mickey and Jennison Wright.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.on Wed. Sept.6,at the Mosti Funeral Home,4435 Sunset Blvd.,Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept.6,2023 at 11:00 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 852 Main St. Wintersville. The Rev. Father Michael Gossett will be the Celebrant.
