Joseph Povich Obituary

Joseph Povich, 89, passed away at Weirton Medical Center on Sunday, February 2, 2025. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Joseph and Sophia, a sister Carol whom he adored and his wife Jean as well as countless friends over the years.

Joseph, who everyone knew as Joe, was born on Jan 8, 1936  in Steubenville. He attended grade school at St. Stanislaus and graduated from Wintersville high school class of 1954. After high school, Joe joined the United States Air Force as airman 2nd class for 4 years. He then pursued a career at Weirton Steel for over 35 years in the hot mill. He loved talking about days in the mill like most of the guys and his family and friends loved to hear the stories as well.

Anyone who knew Joe knew he was special. He was a straight shooter, a man of his word, and always looked dapper in a nice suit or sweater, not because he was flashy but because he took pride in what he had. His mind was sharp and he never forgot an important date. You may have once caught a glimpse of him walking his fur baby Gina Bella up and down Bryden road or perhaps had a conversation with him at prime time or out and about as he never met a stranger. He had a love for Ohio State football, Gunsmoke,  and Lawrence Welk and loved sitting in the garage conversating with  his neighbors who became like family, Bill, Elaine, Marc, and Erin.

Joe had a heart of gold and that heart and quick wit will be dearly missed by all.

Surviving are his brother Rick who he still razzed all the time; his niece Melissa (Tommy) Davis who will never forget his words of encouragement over the years, and her children, Maria, Zoe, Mazzie, Siera, and Robert. All of whom loved uncle Joe dearly. His loving nieces and nephews, Christy, Cindy, and Brent Barker, and Matthew Wilson, Robert Arrico his stepson, Bill Anderson who was like a second brother to him, and last but not least his sweet Cecilia Arrico, the love of his life. Together they made the best team and their love was truly special.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 11 am until time of services at 1 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Entombment will follow in Fort Steuben Burial Estates. Fr. Michael Gossett will officiate.
