June Bodo Obituary

June (Chappo) Bodo, 93,  left this life peacefully to be with her Lord, Jesus on Sunday, February 25, 2024 surrounded by her family at Weirton Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Steubenville Ohio on October 19, 1930. She is the daughter of the late Tom and Sadie (Torok) Chappo.

June was a 1948 graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School. Soon after she graduated, June went to work alongside her mother at Junedale‘s Meat Market on S. 4th St., from 1948 through 1951.

June married the man of her dreams, Arthur Bodo on June 30, 1951. June’s first priority was to her loving husband, Arthur & her 5 children, they were her entire world. Followed by her love & devotional to God and Church. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Wintersville, Ohio.

June had a passion for singing. As a child, she took voice & singing lessons. Later in life, she sang in her church choir for 39 years at Saint Pius the Tenth until it closed and later at Blessed Sacrament for an additional four years, until sadly; she lost her ability to sing after suffering a stroke.

After their children were old enough to be on their own, June dipped her toe back in the workplace and went to work for the Carriage Inn Nursing Home as a Nurses Aide for a short period time.

June was a huge Big Red fan & just as passionate about the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers & Penguins.

June and Art’s home would later in life become known as the Christmas house on Lexington Drive. For decades they would hand make and display Christmas decorations where generations of families would come from miles around to view their lovely home. Some of these decorations are still being displayed & are part of the annual Nutcracker Village Festival in Steubenville, OH. June loved when spring arrived for she’d plant hundreds of flowers around her yard. She was the only woman we knew that didn’t mind getting her bare hands dirty with her  diamond rings on. June had a heart of gold when it came to charities. Saying no wasn’t an option! She felt it was her christianly duty to help everyone.

June was the family historian. Anything you needed to know, she had the answer. We already regret not writing everything down!

If June knew you, she never forget your birthday, anniversary, or the day someone died.  She sent cards to everyone! She kept Hallmark in business! She even called her children to remind them to send a card too! She never wanted anyone to be forgotten. Everyone was important to her!

June loved to gamble. Her first taste of gambling was, of course in her beloved church. Her husband Arthur volunteered to help the church raise money. June helped too, by buying lots of bingo cards & never winning. Then, friends took her to a casino & she loved the lights & sounds. We never knew that casinos had a healing effect. June would have this ache or pain but once at the casino, you couldn’t keep up with her. She rarely won but, that didn’t matter; she wasn’t feeling any pain!

June in addition to her parents, she proceeded in death by her granddaughter, Ashley Allyn Coleman,  brother-in-law, Robert Lanham, brother-in-law, Albino Bodo, sister-in-law, Angeline Zucco and brother-in-law, Sylvio Zucco.

June survived by her husband, Arthur Bodo, sister, Jeanette (Toots) Lanham of Williamsville NY, sister in law Anita Bodo, and her son, Arthur T (Kathy) Bodo of Steubenville, daughter, Sharon (Jim) Coleman of Myrtle Beach SC, son, Mark (Pam) Bodo of Huntersville NC, daughter, Leslie (Tony) Piergallini of Titusville FL, son, Brian Bodo (Jamie Maley) fiancé  of Steubenville, ex daughter-in-law, Pam Cucarese Bodo of Steubenville, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and neighbors on Lexington Drive and Whitehall Place and devoted caregiver & friend Tammy Duchin.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 29 from 2-6 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville.  A funeral liturgy with Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church will be held Friday, March 1 at 11:00am, Fr.
