Leonard W. Morris, Sr., 92, of Wintersville, peacefully passed at home with his loving family around him on Wednesday, February 8th. Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. Morris, Sr. and Anna Feryn (Roudebush) Morris. He is also preceded in death by sisters, Betty Feryn Scott of Cleveland and Adella Jill Morris of Wintersville, brothers, Robert J. Morris, Jr. and Lowell M. Morris both of Wintersville.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara Rose (Rogers) Morris, daughters Jacquelyn Feryn Morris of West Palm Beach, FL and Cynthia Rose Morris of Wintersville, son, Leonard W. Morris, Jr. and his wife Angela Marie (Noss) Morris of Vestavia Hills, AL, granddaughters Claire J. Morris of Vestavia Hills, AL and Rachel M. Morris of Malibu, CA and many nieces and nephews across the country.
Leonard was a proud graduate of Wintersville High School Class of 1948 and attended The College of Steubenville for one year. From 1946 to 1950 he worked for the Floto Johnson Cycle Co., from 1950 to 1960 he worked in the circulation department for The Steubenville Herald Star and continued to read every edition from front to back as long as he could. Once he became an insurance agent, the special care he took for his clients and their families was well known. Leonard and Clara were co-owners of The Rose by Clara’s Catering.
Leonard recently received his 65-year member pin from Pilgrim Lodge 691 and was a dedicated member of Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite, Aladdin Shrine of Columbus, Steubenville Shrine Club where he served as Secretary for 40 years, Steubenville Motor Patrol, Road Runners and Osiris Shrine in West Virginia.
He served in the Ohio National Guard for over 20 years, reaching the rank of Sergeant First Class. Leonard was past president of the Steubenville Association of Life Underwriters and a past president of the Steubenville Jaycees, having received an award for “outstanding service in the Chapter and the Community”, past president of the Board of Women’s Health of Jefferson County and past president of the Wintersville Band Boosters. Leonard was best known for his firm handshake as well as appreciation and kindness for everyone he knew or met.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 10 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A masonic service will be held Friday at 6:00 pm. Additional visitation will be held Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 am until time of services at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Fort Steuben Burial Estates.
