Maria Parise Obituary

Maria Zumpano Parise, a beloved matriarch whose life embodied the warmth of family and the richness of her Italian heritage, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on December 3, 1932, in Rogliano, Italy, Maria carried the vibrant spirit of her homeland throughout her remarkable life.

One of seven children, Maria grew up in Rogliano before marrying her hometown sweetheart, Luigi Parise. Together, they embarked on a new adventure, immigrating to America and settling in Steubenville, Ohio, where they lovingly raised their three children.

Maria was a devoted homemaker, and her home was a testament to her dedication to "la familia." She cultivated a bountiful tomato garden, transforming its harvest into her renowned homemade marinara sauce, a staple that nourished countless gatherings. Her cheerful disposition filled the air with song, often the melodic strains of "Que Sera Sera." Summer traditions were a highlight, with her Fourth of July hospitality shining brightly as she hosted delightful Italian/American feasts, culminating in a spectacular view of the nearby fireworks. Maria was also an avid walker, finding joy in long strolls through the streets of Rogliano and on the track in Steubenville.

After Luigi's passing, Maria frequently returned to Rogliano for nearly two decades, spending entire summers reconnecting with her roots and, most especially, her beloved twin sister, Concetta.

Maria was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Luigi Parise, and her parents, Luigi and Giuseppina Rizzo Zumpano. She was also preceded by her siblings: Vincenza Zumpano Oliverio, Egidio Zumpano, Emilio Zumpano, Romeo Zumpano, and Eugenio Zumpano.

She is survived by her cherished twin sister, Concetta Zumpano Fiore, and her loving children: Chris Santarelli of Paradise Valley, AZ, Frank Parise of Sarasota, FL, and Renaldo Parise of Mars, PA. Maria also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, both in Italy and across the United States.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at Lancia Villa Vista for their loving, compassionate, and expert care. Maria truly considered them her second family.

In accordance with her wishes, Maria will be cremated, and will be returned to her beloved hometown of Rogliano, Italy.
