Mark Yocum Obituary

Mark Alan Yocum, 63, of Sandusky, formerly of Steubenville, died peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Valley Hospice. He was born on December 3, 1958 to Harry “Sonny” and Michele (Levite) Yocum and was the oldest of three children.   

Mark graduated from Steubenville High School, Class of 1977.  He attended the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, earning a BA in Mass Media and Communications.  Mark spent 33 years working in the newspaper business.  After retirement as director of advertising from the Sandusky Register, Mark kept himself busy as a real estate agent for 3 years before taking a part time position with Trinity Health System to help people, a job which he loved and enjoyed deeply. 

Mark was passionate about helping others and took pride in his work.  He was a part of many professional affiliations, including sitting on the Board of Directors for United Way of Erie County as well as serving as President of Erie County Chamber of Commerce and being a member of various associations in Erie County, OH, Jefferson County, OH, and Crawford County. His attention to detail was appreciated when he served as copy editor/proofreader for two published novels. His other passions included golf, all things Pittsburgh sports, current events, and relaxing by the lake or in the yard. His greatest pride was his children whom he strove to set a good example for always. 

Mark is preceded in death by his father, Harry Yocum, and a nephew, Devin Yocum. 

Mark is survived by his mother, Michele (Levite) Yocum (Ron Anderson), a brother, Larry Yocum, a sister, Denise Yocum, 3 children: Marcus (Elena), Matthew, and Sarah (Craig), a nephew Brent (Jaclyn) Yocum, and 2 great nieces and his Sandusky family, friends Jeff and Joy Berquist and JoAnn (Doug) Myers, and his 5 “granddogs”.  

Friends are invited to a graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:30 pm at Union Cemetery.
