Mary Louise Nugent Ferguson, 92, passed away on January 14, 2020, at Humility House Nursing Home in Austintown, Ohio. Born in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mary and her husband, the late Joseph Ferguson, moved to Steubenville, Ohio, in 1978 to raise their children in a strong Catholic community.
Mary, known for her love of Jesus Christ and the Catholic faith, was a long-time member of Triumph of the Cross Parish (Holy Rosary) and the Community of God’s Love. She served regularly in a local soup kitchen for many years and exercised a gift of hospitality that brought friends and strangers alike into her home.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Edna Cullinane Nugent; brothers Francis Nugent and David Nugent; sister Margaret Ginnett; son Daniel Ferguson and daughter Maureen Kroeger.
Surviving are her children Stephen (Debra) Ferguson, Michael (Meghan) Ferguson, Lisa Ferguson, Julie (Paul) Pinto, Susan (Michael) Dumas, and Sarah (Dave) Ferguson-Smith; son-in-law Steve Kroeger; and sisters Clare McCracken and Barbara Ovalle. Mary was a proud mother of 8, grandmother of 16, and great-grandmother of 7.
Calling hours will be 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 22, at Holy Rosary Church in Steubenville, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. A vigil service will be Tuesday at 5:45 pm. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
