Mary A. “Minia” Pointer, 93, died peacefully surrounded by family, Saturday, April 10, 2021 in Buford, Georgia. She was born July 13, 1927 in Steubenville, a lifelong resident until she went to visit her daughter in 2010. She is the daughter of the late Vincent and Antoninia Doroszczyk Szydlowski. She is also preceded in death by her husband Robert Pointer; five brothers John, William “Shorty”, Walter “Bullets”, Alfonse “Epki” and Stanley “Gus”; two sisters Stella Rufus and Helen Szydlowski.
Mary worked at First National Bank for 24 years before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. She was also a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School.
Surviving are one daughter Mary Beth (David) Carroll of GA; two grandchildren Joseph and Cole White; two step-grandchildren Joshua and Trent Carroll; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 3-6 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
