Mary Suriano Obituary

On Saturday, September 19, 2020, in Pittsburgh, PA, Mary Suriano, best known as “Nanna” to all who crossed her threshold, beloved matriarch of her family passed through Heaven’s Gate at the age of 86.

Born Maria Teresa to Antonio and Emilia Conforti in Belmonte in the Province of Cosenza in Reggio Calabria, Italy on December 24, 1933, she would grow to raise generations of her own bloodline created with her husband, Orlando Suriano, which whom she married July 3, 1954.

After immigrating to America, she gained employment at the 5 & 10 in Steubenville, OH as a clerk. Aligning with her natural inclination to feed everyone, she was then employed in the kitchen at the Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville, OH. Later in life, she worked at E & E Bridals in Steubenville, OH as a seamstress following yet another passion in her life. Amidst her employment history, her most famed position was nurturer in many variations. As noted, she raised many of her own and some she claimed. She maintained a garden never to be forgotten and used her hard work to feed anyone she encountered.

Greeting her at Heaven’s Gate stood proudly her husband, her parents and so many of her loved ones. Remaining to carry on her memory are her sisters, Rose (Natale) Magnone and Emma (Walter) Deptula both of Steubenville, OH; her two sons, Nino (Ginny) Suriano and Dino (Carrin Butler) Suriano Sr. both of Wintersville, OH; her (grand)daughter, Jessica Suriano of Pittsburgh, PA; her grandsons, Dino, Jonathan and D’Angelo Suriano all of Wintersville, OH; her great-grandchildren, Dominic Shepperson of Gillette, WY, Sydnee and Niko Suriano of Steubenville, OH, Kairana Dixon of Pittsburgh, PA and Greyson Suriano of Wintersville, OH; and one great-great-grandson, Gionni McGhee of Steubenville, OH along with many relatives extending back to Italy, “The Old Country.”

Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 23, 4-7 pm at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral service will be Thursday at 11am at the funeral home, Deacon Mark Erste will officiate.  Entombment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, where she will eternally rest next to her husband.

Masks are required and social distancing will be expected.
