Maryanne F. Evans, 94, of Wintersville, OH, went to be with her Lord on Sept. 5, 2020 when she passed away in her sleep at Gables Care Center, Hopedale, OH. She was born Apr. 20, 1926 in Johnstown, PA, the daughter of John W. and Marian Schade Fritz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, J. Ray Evans, daughter Judith Anne Hunter, granddaughter Kathleen Noel Hunter, and brother John (Jack) Fritz.
She is survived by her son Jeffrey R. Evans, Sr., (Susan) of Wintersville, grandsons Jeffrey Evans Jr. (Lynn), Neil Evans, and David (Carol Sue) Evans, great grandchildren Amber, Mari, Kiera, and John Logan Evans, son-in-law Franklin Hunter, and nieces Linda Fritz, Cheryl Toschlog, and Melissa Minarik.
She had a great love for her extended family. As her kids were growing up she supported them with activities such as PTA parent, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Leader, chauffeur, cook, nurse, and overall loving caretaker. She was very active with many duties in the churches to which she belonged until forced to slow down by the ravages of advancing age. She also found time to volunteer at a hospital, as a meals on wheels kitchen worker, and Welcome Wagon Lady, and always had time to be hostess and friend to her kids’ friends, as well as many of their parties. When things slowed down at home she spent several years working as a teacher’s aide with the Bethel Park schools, then at the National Steel Service Center in Pittsburgh. With her friendly manner and sometimes offbeat wit she made friends with most whom she met.
A memorial service will be held at Wintersville United Methodist Church on a yet to be determined date when the COVID virus and other circumstances permit, and interment alongside her husband in N. Myrtle Beach, NC will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wintersville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
