Matsue "Judy" Merryman

Matsue “Judy” Kawai Merryman, 91, passed away July 5, 2021. She was born in Tokyo, Japan on January 25, 1930, the youngest of four children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jusuke and Yasuno Sone Kawai; a sister, Kikue Ohkubo; a brother, Susumu Kawai; her husband of 62 years, Franklin T. Merryman, whom she married June 11, 1955; and her beloved family dog, Mr. Peabody.

 Matsue was a member of Starkdale Presbyterian Church. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed items for the church Fall Bazaar. She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Kent) Dove of Raleigh, NC; son Franklin C. Merryman of Mingo Jct.; sister Shizue Furuta of Tokyo; niece Haruko (Riki) Ohkubo of Tokyo; three grandchildren: Josh Dove of Los Angeles, Danny Dove and Jenny Dove both of Raleigh, sister-in-law Gay Brock of England; great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday from 2-5 p.m. and funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A graveside service will follow at Union Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Valley Hospice for their wonderful care.
