Michael Jude Marker

Michael Jude Marker, Sr., 84, of Steubenville, Ohio died on December 31, 2021. He was born on December 5, 1937 in South Bend, Indiana to the late LeRoy and Helen (DeBelius) Marker.

While in his youth, his family relocated to Salem, Oregon. Upon graduating from high school, Mike entered the United States Air Force. While stationed at Fairchild Air Force base in Spokane, WA, Mike met his beloved wife of 61 years, Rita Osterberg, who was the organist for the men’s choir. Mike was the chaplain’s assistant. The two married, resided in Oscoda, MI, Salem, OR, the Dalles, OR and then relocated to Snohomish, WA. While in Snohomish, Mike served as a city councilman, Mayor Pro Tem and a volunteer firefighter. Mike was proud to serve his community. They resided in Snohomish for approximately 17 years before moving briefly to St. Joseph, MN and then settling in Steubenville, Ohio where Mike and Rita started the Patient’s Rights Council where Mike was president up until his death.

Mike was proud to have been appointed with Rita to the Vatican’s Pontifical Council on the Family. They traveled internationally, speaking in Tanzania, Africa, France, England and many other locations. Mike was the initiator and coordinator of the Tomb of the Unborn Child located at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville, Ohio.

Mike will be remembered as an outgoing, friendly, sarcastically witty man who had great faith and a love for his family.

Mike was preceded in death by his great grandson Trynt Otis. He is survived by his wife, Rita (Osterberg) Marker, their son’s Mike (Marcie) Marker, Tim (Sue) Marker, Pat Marker, Dan Marker, Paul (Jennifer) Marker, Tom (Amie) Marker and daughter, Susan Young and son-in-law Tim Young, Sr.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Jennifer (Brian) Hensarling, Cheryl (Greg) Otis, Michael, Donnie, Andrew, Olivia, Leyton, and Maryrose Marker, Sarah (Devin) McCoy, Timothy, Harrison, Jackie and Joseph Marker, Isabella and Meaghan Marker, Willie (Reese) Fordham, Qua’Shon Lindsey, Maurkesha, Timothy Jr., Christopher and Zoey Young, Liam, Noah, and Owen Marker, McKenzie, Jackson and Lainey Marker and great grandchildren Hailey, Alyssa, Michael Joseph, Onnavee, Bretton, Audrey, Miller, Grace, Abigail Rose, Toree’, Leona, and A’nyah.

Mike is also survived by his sister, Susie (Roger) Harris, and their children Hank (Lorri) Harris, Evan (Donna) Harris, Leah (Kyle) Amsberry, Maria (Bruce) Sylva, Cindi Harris and Sara (Marty) Vaughn as well as a number of great nieces and nephews.

There will be a Funeral Mass at Holy Family Church in Steubenville, Ohio with Msgr. Gerald Calovini officiating on Thursday January 6th at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt.
