Nicholas W. Smarrella, Jr.

Nicholas W. Smarrella Jr., 85, of Steubenville, died Thursday, December 2, 2021 surrounded with love from his family at Valley Hospice. He was born August 18, 1936, in Steubenville.  He is the son of the late Nicholas and Rose DiNicola Smarrella. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna DeBellis Smarrella whom he married November 25, 1961; his brothers, Eustace and Robert; and his in-laws Jack and Jean Mattucci DeBellis.  

Nick was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was retired from Weirton Steel Corporation, where he worked for 43 years.  He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and served in Japan.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his daughters Karen (Paul) Vahalik of Perrysburg, OH,  Debbie (John) Colangelo of Canton, OH,  and Pam (Joe) Walker of Moseley, VA; seven grandchildren Erika Walkosky, Brad Vahalik (Jenna), Nicole Vahalik (Austin), Nick Colangelo, John Colangelo, Noah Walker and Emma Walker.

Visitation will be held Thursday December, 9, 2:00 - 6 :00 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, at Holy Family Church, Msgr. Gerald Calovini celebrant. Entombment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
