Primo J. DiCarlo M.D.

Primo J. DiCarlo, M.D. age 66, of Steubenville OH, died on Thursday, June 24th, 2021, at UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh PA.

Primo Joseph DiCarlo was born May 6th, 1955 in Steubenville, to the late Primo and Norma (Yannon) DiCarlo. He was raised in Steubenville, attended St. Peter Catholic Grade School, and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1973.  He attended the Ohio State University and earned his bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) from Franciscan University. Primo married the love of his life Marian Macre on December 21st, 1979. He earned his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico in 1982.  Following medical school, he completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. He practiced anesthesiology in Steubenville for 35 years at Ohio Valley Hospital, Trinity Medical Center and finally the Valley Surgery Center. 

Primo was a dedicated husband and father who taught through his actions how to live a humble and caring life. He always put others before himself. To those who knew him well, the most important things in his life were his beloved family and friends. He was known by his fellow physicians, anesthetists, nurses, medical staff and patients as a compassionate, down-to-earth, fun-loving, and caring physician. He enjoyed many hobbies and collections including classic cars, vintage comic books, and Lionel trains. Primo is the son of Primo Joseph DiCarlo the founder of DiCarlo’s Pizza in 1945. Primo was proud to successfully carry on the family business alongside his siblings and son, Primo. He was excitedly anticipating the arrival of his first grandchild in the fall.

Survivors include his wife Marian of Steubenville, two children, Dr. Christina (Mathew) DiCarlo Canestraro of Gibsonia, PA, Primo (Carmela) DiCarlo of Steubenville; one sister Norma Jean (Frank) Orlando of Steubenville; and one brother Michael (Gretchen) DiCarlo of Steubenville. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Monday June 28th from 2-6 PM at Mosti Funeral Home, 4435 Sunset Blvd, Steubenville. A funeral service will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church,425 N 4th St, Steubenville, OH on Tuesday June 29th at 11:00 AM.
